We remember the days when we used to dream about the places that we visit now. The Maldives encapsulates everything dreamy about a tropical paradise and there really are no words to describe the true beauty of the 26 ring shaped atolls that many view as a fantasy land. Well in the Maldives, reality is wrong and dreams are for real.

Sun on our faces, sand on our feet and salt in our hair, this is the spirit of the Maldives! Arriving into Male to blue smooth skies and sunshine, we made the seemingly effortless transition from the arrival hall to the island of Kuramathi which lies gracefully just a 1 hour speedboat transfer to the North Ari Atoll.

As the boat slowed and we dropped anchor, there was an air of excitement as we eyed the cyan seas and stretches of sand draped with overhanging palms.  Arriving into the fresh and airy main entrance, we were warmly welcomed and introduced to the Island by one of the Kuramathi team who were more than happy to point out areas of interest and importance (The Loft champagne lounge bar obviously) on our short and sweet caddy journey en route to our deluxe water villa.

Turning onto the wooden decking we were greeted with over water villas bridging each side of the ocean, each villa standing tall and proud against the backdrop of paradise. We quickly realised, there’s paradise, then there’s The Maldives!

Arriving into the Maldives is like arriving into “Fanta-sea” land. Peering out of the plane window to a myriad of blues, our imaginations run wild as to what could be beneath the teal carpet below.

Taking the short internal flight from Male to Kooddoo Airport and boarding the aptly named dhoni, Blue Shadow, we darted across the blue hues towards what would be our home for the next ten nights, winding our way through the 26 ring shaped atolls from the deep South to our port of disembarkation in Male.

As Kooddoo faded into the distance, M/Y Blue Voyager perched proudly ahead against the backdrop of tiny islets as the sun danced off the fresh whites of the boat exterior. Climbing aboard the beautifully crafted 37m yacht, we were welcomed with warm smiles as we exchanged pleasantries with our new boat family who kept us on course throughout the duration of our trip. From the charismatic cruise directors, dive guides with a six sense for anticipating marine life observations and boat crew who articulately run the operation like clockwork, it was a pleasure to be surrounded by such a charming crew.

Stepping onto the smart furnishings of the Velassaru speed boat, we were swiftly whisked away from the main island of Male, dancing across the azure blue seas. Eager with anticipation, we admired the tiny islands lined with beautiful water villas and the flying fish that skipped alongside our boat. Twenty minutes into our journey we caught our first glimpse of Velassaru.   As we drew toward the shore, we were beckoned from the boat, our feet drenched in the powdery white sand and eyes wide from the kaleidoscope of blues that welcomed us.

Having spent some time in The Maldives lapping up the luxury of resort life on a previous trip, this time we were beyond excited to board the aptly named Carpe Vita (the 2nd sister of the Carpe Diem fleet) that is lucky enough to navigate through some of the most majestic, 26 ring shaped atolls that make this tropical region one of the most sought after destinations on the planet.

After a swift transfer from Male airport zipping across the silky seas, Carpe Vita came into view, sun glistening off the fresh white and wood exteriors. Stepping aboard the 38 meter safari yacht, we were welcomed by wide eyes and smiles of the fully Maldivian crew, who we would come to learn are masters at their craft be it the knowledgeable dive guides, articulate chef or charismatic captain Adam who kept us on course throughout our voyage of the Northern Atolls.

Waking up on the waves, sipping coffee and gearing up ready to drop deep are exactly how magical Maldivian mornings begin. Providing 3 dives a day as standard, there is nothing quite like waking up on the water in the amphitheatre of dreams as golden glows rise above the horizon lighting up the tiny islets.

Sun, sand and seaplanes, this is the spirit of the Maldives and we were about to experience this all for ourselves heading to the sensational southern Atolls with Angsana Velavaru.

Arriving into Velana International Airport to gorgeous glowing sunshine, we were full of excitement and anticipation to board our seaplane transfer to our resort. After a smooth and speedy check in, we were called to the seaway! Sun sparkling off the wing, the beaming crew, sunglasses to match, kindly assisted us with our luggage as they welcomed us aboard. Taking front row seats up top with the pilots, we got our camera ready as we zipped off the sea and effortlessly gained altitude. Soon we were eyeing the marvels of the Maldives surrounded by salty sparkling seas. For just under an hour we admired the beauty of the Maldives from the skies, laying eyes on the tiny islets that make these 26 ring shaped atolls some of the most sought after locations on the planet. It was then our captain pointed into the distance, Angsana Velavaru!
